I like Pretty Girl Rock by Keri Hilson.  I’m all for anthems that remind you that yes, you are a ten, and pretty girls do rock.  You can download her sophomore album No Boys Allowed here.

If only I had dated Kathy Griffin

Continued from…

“Matt, I have to ask: if you really felt this way then why did you come to New York for New Year’s?”

“I don’t know.  Because I thought it would be fun.”

“You thought it’d be fun.  YOU THOUGHT IT’D BE FUN?!”

OH.  HELL.  NO.

I never actually said those words but it must have been written all over my face because Matt suddenly got really quiet and the look on his face changed to one of almost absolute terror.  He was settling in for the storm of hell-fire about to spew forth from my mouth.

“So was it just fun for you when we went out all of those times and spent weekends away together?  I could understand if we’d gone away only one weekend but we went away several times.  And was it just fun when we slept together?  I cooked meat for your sorry ass and I’m a vegetarian! Read more…

Ausente (Absent): Possibly the most talked about gay film for 2011

February 24th, 2011 Comments off

Last week, the Berlin Film Festival Berlinale announced the winners of its prized Teddy Award honoring the best in LGBTQ film and documentaries exhibited during the festival.  Winning the category for Best Feature Film was Marco Berger’s Ausente (Absent) from Argentina.

Ausente winning for Best Feature Film is big, considering that a little known film called The Kids Are Alright one the same category last year.  But what is also interesting about the film is its story line, which deals with a teenage boy who makes plans to seduce his male swim coach, with possibly tragic consequences.

The jury for the Teddy Award stated that its decision to award Ausente was based on “the film’s unique combination of homoerotic desire, suspense  and romantic tension [which] reflects the director’s keen understanding of genre conventions and cinematic language.”

The trailer for the film is below.  If you’re a film buff, you can find out more information about the Teddy Awards here, and see a list of the nominated films here.

Dating Guys With Pets: The Big Pick Up

Continued from …

Gus, Principal & Pack Leader of Pet Peeps, was right of course.  There was going to come a time when Peanut and all of her cute ephemeral ways would come crashing soundly to Earth; and it would be up to me with plastic baggie in hand to take care of it.  Well, there was certainly one way to find out if I was up for the challenge: I needed to take Peanut for a walk.

I went over to Scotty’s place later that day.  We were sitting on the couch watching Top Chef on the DVR and Peanut was curled up on the rug in front of the TV.  At some point, Scotty got up to finish doing laundry, and as I sat on the couch watching the Quick Fire Challenge, Peanut made her way to the door of Scotty’s place.

“Now’s my chance!” I thought; to walk Peanut and see if I could really do it.  “I’m going to take Peanut for a walk!” I yelled to Scotty, as I leaped up off the couch and out the door with Peanut and her leash before Scotty could even respond. Read more…

Kissing Kamal Is On Facebook!

February 22nd, 2011 Comments off

Hi there!

I don’t ask much from you guys as readers (please visit my sponsors), but I am going to ask that you Like Kissing Kamal on Facebook.  Why you ask?  Because I hope that what I’m doing on this blog represents a positive image of the LGBT community, and I think it’s time that people saw us as being more than catty caricatures, down low snakes, or materialistic social climbers.

So yeah, please help me in this endeavor by clicking Like.  Who knows; maybe someone will read a post and realize that gay people are just like them.  Or maybe someone who’s over Gay Drama will find something to keep them laughing in their heart.

Because I don’t believe in asking something for nothing, over the next week I will answer any question posted on the Kissing Kamal Facebook page with a frank and honest answer.  Wondering what former dates have told me about the blog?  Want to know who begged me not to write about them?  Want to know if I’ve dated anyone famous?  Just ask me on the Facebook page and I’ll answer it.

xoxo,

-Kamal

Beefy College Studs For The Holiday

What's your major?

In honor of President’s Day (yeah, like this is going to make sense), I give you the real music video to Katy Perry’s Firework.  If you’re a fan of cute, corn-fed farm boys then look no further!  I actually give it up to these guys for being comfortable enough in their own skins to do the video.  Great job guys!

FYI: the mastermind behind all this, and the man to know if you want to ask one of these studs out, is Devon Parks.  Devon is a film student at University of Arkansas and has a project listed on IMDB here.  You can check out his You Tube channel for more of his work here.

Happy President’s Day!

Dealing With A Toxic Break Up

February 17th, 2011 1 comment

In DC, this could be an insult or a compliment

In dating, it’s inevitable that things won’t work out sometimes.  Maybe you’re not compatible, or the passion just isn’t there in some way.

As I’ve said before, unless the guy is a jerk, there isn’t a need to part on bad terms and you might even end up being decent friends one day.  But what happens when one person doesn’t see it that way and feels the need to go about making a fuss?

A friend called me one day for what I thought was one of our regular chats until he told me that he had to tell me something that was pretty wild.  He’d been in a restaurant having lunch when he heard my name being mentioned in the booth behind him.  Turns out that some guys who he didn’t recognize were talking about me and someone I had recently gone out with several times.  The guys were saying that my date was still trying to get over the way I had badly treated him and wondering how anyone could date me given that I acted so badly with this one guy. Delicious Pop serves it! Two new gay reality shows

February 16th, 2011 Comments off

Our kissing cousin Delicious Pop has the 411 on two new black gay reality shows coming soon to a TV or You Tube channel near you.  Tha Life follows a group of gay men in Atlanta, while My Secret Society follows a group of lesbians in the same city; with appearances from folks on The Real Housewives of Atlanta.

Do these shows give us two new reasons to rally support for gay representation on television and in the media?  Maybe.  From Delicious Pop:

My biggest concern about these shows is how much do the characters play into stereotypes.  With the black community steeped in religion, these shows don’t do much to rally gay rights supporters…

You can get the full story on these shows here.

An Episode in Dating: How I Got Dumped on New Year’s Day

February 15th, 2011 Comments off

Continued from…

“Last night with you was great, and I gotta say … I think I’m developing feelings for you.”  I laid my head back on Matt’s chest.

Matt continued to lie next to me as he opened his mouth and said, “Kamal I think you should know that I don’t really see us being a long term thing.”

“What?” I said; trying now to come fully out of slumber.

“Actually, I don’t think we ever had the potential to be anything long term.”

“What?!”  My body was now turned sideways and I looked at Matt trying to comprehend what he was saying.  I realized what would inevitably be said from this point forward wouldn’t be good for my heart. Read more…

Your Obligatory Valentine’s Day Post

February 14th, 2011 Comments off

Bike Love | Moritz Resl via Flickr

I started writing this post last week and got a little sidetracked.  Not just with work (which is hella busy right now) but also with the whole concept of Valentine’s Day.

While I’m all for expressions of love, I’m not a big fan of buying tons of over-priced crap just to show a person that you care for them one day of the year.  If you disagree, then flame me in the comments while I buy my chocolates tomorrow at 70% off.

Also, I thought it would be a little too ironic if I went over the moon with a VD extravaganza considering that somewhere else on this blog I’m about to possibly get dumped on New Year’s (read here if you’re behind).

So yeah, to quote the King, I’m all shook up.  But then a funny thing happened: I logged onto Facebook and saw the expressions of love that everyone had for everyone else.  Frankly, it made me all gooey inside and very appreciative of the love that exists around me.  And with that, I found my V-Day spirit.
