An Episode in Dating: How I Got Dumped on New Year’s Day

Continued from…

“Last night with you was great, and I gotta say … I think I’m developing feelings for you.”  I laid my head back on Matt’s chest.

Matt continued to lie next to me as he opened his mouth and said, “Kamal I think you should know that I don’t really see us being a long term thing.”

“What?” I said; trying now to come fully out of slumber.

“Actually, I don’t think we ever had the potential to be anything long term.”

“What?!”  My body was now turned sideways and I looked at Matt trying to comprehend what he was saying.  I realized what would inevitably be said from this point forward wouldn’t be good for my heart. Read more…

Trying to find an empty cab on New Year’s Eve was proving impossible so Jarrod, Tyler, Matt and I ended up walking to the restaurant to meet Mischa and his friends.  We were well on our way to tipsy and Jarrod and Matt were being completely animated and acting like goofballs.  Tyler and I walked behind them; exchanging conspiratorial glances with each other that said, “Are we really dating these guys?”

We finally reached our restaurant destination, Balthazar, and the line to get in was ridiculous.  “Is this a restaurant or a club?” Tyler asked.  We all looked at each other wondering if we were going to get in before midnight when Jarrod received a text from Mischa directing us to a side entrance. An Episode in Dating: The Big Question

“Okay Jarrod, Breathe out on three.  One, two three.”  Rip.

“Hisss! Oh the belly is always the hardest part” said Jarrod.

“Really?  I would’ve thought the opposite” I said.  I went with Jarrod to Polished in Georgetown for his normal waxing appointment to check it out and possibly sign up for an appointment.  Jarrod loved the owner and had been going there for years, even before it was written up in Washingtonian Magazine.

“The belly is the most painful.  Everything else is quite relaxing.  So tell me, how’s Matt?  Tyler and I had fun hanging out with you guys at the Christmas Market.”

“We had fun with you guys too.  Tyler is hilarious by the way.  You know I’m following him on Twitter now.  He totally brightens my day.  Things with Matt are good; still taking it as it comes.  I was a little nervous after our talk but it hasn’t caused any problems between us.  Actually, he’s been making more of an effort to express himself.” Read more…

An Episode in Dating: The Cupid Shuffle

No this trick did not just pull my man away from me and ask me to take a picture of them together.  Oh hell no!

I looked up from the camera again to see Matt and Ramon smiling and in position.  Jarrod and Tyler had moved away and Jarrod was talking while Tyler texted on his phone.  I looked around the party and briefly assessed my options.

Option 1 was to get catty.  While Ramon had arguably insulted me and whatever relationship I had with Matt, being catty in this situation wasn’t really my style.  Option 2: push Ramon in the pool.  Unless your name is Alexis or Krystal then that is probably not a good look either.  I went with Option 3.

An Episode in Dating: Take A Picture

The Beach House

The four of us exited the movie theatre in an extremely good mood.

Zombies of Mass Destruction was hilarious.  Good call Tyler” I said.  “What’s next on our agenda?”

Jarrod and I discussed various spots for a drink, trying to figure out what was open during Shoulder Season when out of the blue:

“I know a party we can go to” Matt said.  “It’s on Philadelphia St. and we could stop by for a drink or two.”

Everyone agreed to head over to the party.  It was perfect timing because we could drop the car off at the house, then walk to the party and be car fee for the rest of the night.  Matt and I walked a little ahead of Jarrod and Tyler on our way back to the car.

“Matt, I didn’t know you knew people in Rehoboth?”

“Well, I guess I do and I guess I don’t.  The party is being given by Ramon.  He and I dated for a while and we’re still friendly.  I don’t hang out with him a lot but I got an invite to the party on Facebook.  I didn’t mention it before because I wasn’t sure if you’d want to go.” Read more…

An Episode in Dating: 4 Boys And a Beach House

December 29th, 2010 Comments off

The Beach House

Situated right on Silver Lake with views of the Atlantic, the beach house in Rehoboth was a quaint Cap Cod with a master suite, two bedrooms, screened porch and a huge yard perfect for volleyball or playing catch. From the plush furniture, to the pantry stocked with organic lemonade and a dozen different bottles of vodka, everything about the house softly cooed, “relax.”

Matt and I were sprawled on the sofa reading the Rehoboth Beach Film Festival guide when Jarrod walked in wheeling a massive suitcase.

“Jarrod, why’d you bring so much stuff? We’re only here for a weekend” I said as I got up to give him a hug.

An Episode in Dating: Oooo GURL!

December 13th, 2010 Comments off

It's Judy Garland!

“Oooo GURL!   So tell me WHAT HAD HAPPENED WAS!”

“Jarrod, if you don’t stop playing around and yelling in my ear, I’m gonna reach into this phone and snatch you.”  It was the day after my big oyster dinner with Matt and I was feeling the vodka from the night before.  Okay Advil, you can kick in any minute now.

“Alright Ms. Tipsy Tuesday I’ll take it down a notch.  So tell me what happened?”

“Well, we got the whole business with Random Guy taken care of and that’s when he starts in with ‘I’m not the kind of guy to date more than one guy at once’ thing.”

“So you had ‘the talk’ then?” Read more…

An Episode in Dating: Boyfriend for Now

Clay:      Well there’s not much going on except for Boyfriend for Now.

Jarrod:  What?!  First of all, who knew that Clay would get a boyfriend, and second, what does the “for now” part mean?

Clay, short for Clayton, is a tall drink of water hailing from Springfield, Mass.  Clay has a certain swagger that men just naturally find attractive.  His milkshake will bring all the boys to the yard and damn right, it’s better than yours. Read more…
